Spectrum News 1: Spotlight on STEM Education Through Robotics

07.29.2025

FIRST® in Texas was recently featured once again on Spectrum News 1, showcasing the powerful impact of STEM education through robotics.

Dr. Natasha Wilkerson, Dr. Patrick Michaud, and Dr. Dee Wallace represented FIRST in Texas with excellence, offering meaningful insights into the value of hands-on STEM learning.

As the founder of FIRST, Dean Kamen, famously said, “It’s not about the robots. We’re not using kids to build robots—we’re using robots to build kids.” That philosophy drives everything we do. While robotics is the tool, the real outcome is the growth of students. Through hands-on STEM experiences, students across Texas are developing critical skills like leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork which prepares them to thrive in any future they choose.

By keeping our core value of fun front and center, we’re inspiring the next generation of innovators and leaders in a way that’s meaningful, engaging, and unforgettable.
